Detox and Club Drugs

Club Drug Detox - "Club Drugs" is a generic term used to refer to a number of different drugs that are commonly used at nightclubs, bars, raves, and parties. Most commonly these drugs have been associated with all night dance parties called "raves". Some people who attend these types of clubs or parties become involved with these drugs because of their availability, relatively low cost, and the high they provide. The most common "club drugs" that may require detox include Ecstasy("E"," X"," XTC", "Rolls"), and GHB ("liquid ecstasy," "soap," "easy lay," "vita-G," and "Georgia home boy").

GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate) is a drug used for its euphoric, sedative and anabolic effects. GHB was available over the counter commercially until 1992. It was (and still is) used as a body building steroid. However, it's strong (CNS) central nervous system depressant effects as well as its addictiveness it was banned in the U.S.

Coma and seizures can occur following use of GHB. Combining use with other drugs such as alcohol can result in nausea and breathing difficulties. GHB may also produce withdrawal effects, including insomnia, anxiety, tremors, and sweating. GHB has been involved in poisonings, overdoses, date rapes, and deaths. These withdrawal effects may need a hospital based detox as well.

GHB Detox can be lengthy and dangerous. GHB withdrawal may include hallucinations, anxiety, sweating, and more. In addition withdrawal symptoms can be delayed by up to five days after the last dose. Care should be taken to pursue hospital detox for GHB addiction.

Ecstasy-is the street name for MDMA. a psychoactive drug similar to methamphetamine. Ecstasy also has chemical properties similar to the hallucinogen Mescaline. In high doses ecstasy can interfere the body's temperature regulation. When ecstasy is taken in high amounts over a short period of time the chemical can build to high levels in the body resulting in "hyperthermia" essentially the body overheats and causes liver, kidney, and circulatory damage which can lead to death.

Because some forms of ecstasy can contain opiates such as heroin long term use can lead to a physical addiction which needs to be treated under supervision at a hospital detox.
