Opiate Detox
Opiate - A medication or illegal drug that is either derived from the opium poppy, or that mimics the effect of an opiate (a synthetic opiate). Opiate drugs are narcotic sedatives that depress activity of the central nervous system, reduce pain, and induce sleep. Side effects may include over sedation, nausea, and constipation. Long term use of opiates can produce addiction, and overuse can cause overdose and potentially death.
Opiate Addiction is very common and does not only include the stereotypical "Drug Addicts" that we pass along the streets. Prescription drug addiction is becoming a major problem as the availability of them increases through over prescription and the sale of opiates over the internet. This has led to a surge in dependency throughout the general population. If you think that you may have a problem with opiates the you should ask yourself a few questions.
- Do you feel nervous or anxious when your prescription is getting low?
- Have you ever tried to stop taking your medication and felt physically ill, and found you couldn't stop?
- Are your prescriptions the first thought on your mind each day?
- Do you take more than the recommended dosage?
- Have you needed to raise your dose to achieve the same effects?
- Do you get you prescriptions from multiple doctors, or seek them out from many online pharmacies?

Help is available for opiate detox or addiction
Opiates when taken long term or in higher doses can cause a physical dependency on the drug. Your body begins to show physical signs of distress when you stop taking the drug. These symptoms can include, runny nose, shaking, sweating, sleeplessness, anxiety, diarrhea and more. You may have the mental strength to stop, but your body is having physical reactions which should be monitored by a physician. Being monitored by a physician is extremely important as you may have other underlying conditions. See our "why a hospital" page to get more information on why we believe that a hospital based opiate detoxification program is the way to go. We can help you get your life back.
